Dr. Carolina Batista

Carolina Batista is a Brazilian physician, global health leader, and advisor working at the intersection of health systems, equitable access, digital innovation, AI, and innovative financing. With more than two decades of experience addressing some of the world’s most complex and neglected health challenges, spanning frontline humanitarian care, global health governance, and investment ecosystems, her work focuses on how innovations can translate into scalable and equitable health impact in real-world settings. With a background in infectious diseases, Dr. Batista has held senior leadership roles in organizations such as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), where she served in multiple field and governance positions, including as an elected member of the MSF International Board. She also led access initiatives at the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi), championing equitable treatment and diagnostic programs for neglected populations. As the Head of Global Health at Baraka Impact Finance, Dr. Batista works on connecting health innovation, data analytics, market intelligence, and catalytic investment opportunities across LMICs. Her work increasingly focuses on the conditions required for digital health and AI-enabled solutions to get funded, become trusted, integrated and scaled within health systems. Dr. Batista is a co-chair of the Nature Medicine Commission on Quality Health Information for All and leader of the AI and digital technologies working group. She currently chairs the DNDi Latin America Board and Health in Harmony Brazil, and serves on the Boards of the Lancet Migration Latin America and Movement Health Foundation. She holds a medical degree from Brazil and a master’s degree in international health from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, along with advanced degrees in program management, health and human rights, policy, and operational research from renowned global institutions.
