About Angela Shippy
Angela A. Shippy, MD, MHA, FACP, FHM is Director, Senior Physician Executive and Clinical Innovation Lead for Healthcare and Life Sciences at Amazon Web Services. A board-certified internist with over three decades of healthcare leadership experience, she works at the intersection of clinical medicine and emerging technology — helping health systems, payers, and life sciences organizations harness generative AI, cloud infrastructure, and data interoperability to reimagine care delivery and accelerate discovery.
At AWS, Dr. Shippy advises C-suite healthcare executives on enterprise cloud strategy, clinical AI adoption, and data-driven transformation. She brings the rare perspective of a practicing physician-turned-technologist who has led operations at scale and now translates that experience into actionable cloud-enabled solutions for the industry's most complex challenges.
Before joining AWS, Dr. Shippy served as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical & Quality Officer at Memorial Hermann Health System, one of Texas's largest nonprofit health systems, where she led clinical quality, patient safety, pharmacy, laboratory, accreditation, and regulatory compliance across 17 hospitals and 300+ care delivery sites. She previously served as HCA Healthcare's Gulf Coast Division Chief Medical Officer and as Vice President of Medical Affairs at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, where she maintained an active hospitalist practice.
Dr. Shippy earned a B.S. in biology from Texas A&M University and an M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where she also completed her residency in internal medicine. She holds a master’s in healthcare administration and is recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and the Society of Hospital Medicine (FHM).
She was named to the inaugural CNBC Changemakers list in 2024 and recognized among Fierce Healthcare's 2023 Women of Influence. She serves on healthcare councils and committees at local, state, and national levels, and holds volunteer faculty appointments at Baylor College of Medicine, UTHealth Houston, and The Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
