About the session
Health systems around the world are being strained by compounding crises: climate change, pandemics, geopolitical instability, economic disparities, and resource scarcity.
These pressures are exposing deep vulnerabilities in health infrastructure and widening global inequities-particularly for low-income countries and climate vulnerable populations. Traditional, reactive, short-term strategies are no longer sufficient to build resilient, future-ready health systems.
The climate crisis is also fundamentally a health crisis. Health systems contribute an estimated 4.4% of global net emissions, while simultaneously facing growing demands due to climate driven disease burdens, extreme weather events, and supply chain disruptions.
Transitioning to low carbon, climate-resilient health systems is therefore essential not only for environmental sustainability, but also for protecting population health, maintaining continuity of care, and ensuring long-term preparedness.
This session will explore how innovation in policy and partnerships can accelerate the global adoption of low carbon health system roadmaps in an increasingly regionalized world. The session will highlight how forward-looking policy frameworks, innovative multilateral and regional alliances, and cross sector partnerships can overcome fragmentation and drive scalable, context specific decarbonization strategies. By examining successful models across regions, the panel will identify practical mechanisms to ensure that the transition toward low carbon, climate resilient health systems remains globally coherent, equitable, and future ready despite a shifting geopolitical landscape.
