About the session

Scaling a successful response to global malnutrition depends upon a robust and well-resourced cadre of Community Health Workers (CHWs). Partnering with CHWs to identify, test, refine and adapt innovative models and tools to find malnutrition at the community and household level is the key to sustainable, evidence-based impact.

In this session, global and community health leaders from African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF), the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and the Rwandan Society for Family Health (SFH) will discuss innovative, multisectoral initiatives to assist CHWs to serve as a bridge between primary health services, the community and households in addressing malnutrition.

The session will discuss innovative tools and approaches that support CHWs to educate, engage and empower caregivers and families to screen for malnutrition and track progress at the household level. Finally, this session will discuss how data emerging from these approaches may be used to inform standards of care nationally, regionally and globally.
