The Lancet Commission on Investing in Health (CIH) will launch its 3rd report (“CIH 3.0”), called “Global health 2050: the path to halving premature death by mid-century,” at a Keynote Session at the World Health Summit on Oct 15th, 2024. Accompanying this high-level political event, the CIH will host a technical panel featuring a number of Commissioners who authored the report together with a member of the Planning Commission of Nepal (the launch of Global Health 2050 will be followed by several national CIH 3.0 commissions, including a Nepal commission). This technical panel will discuss the scientific, technical, and financial dimensions of the “Global health 2050” report.
The report describes the path that all nations can follow to halve their risk of premature mortality—death before age 70–by mid-century (a 50% reduction by 2050, which the CIH calls “50 by 50”). The panel will examine recent trends in mortality and demography, the main causes of the stark differences in life expectancy between nations, the interventions and systems needed to achieve “50 by 50,” and financing the “50 by 50” agenda.
