Prof. Dr. Hedvig Hricak

Hedvig Hricak, M.D., Ph.D., Dr. (h.c.m), is Emeritus Chair of Radiology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), New York, NY. She served as Chair of the Department of Radiology at MSKCC from 1999 to early 2023. Until she transitioned to an emeritus position in August 2025, she was a member of the Molecular Pharmacology Program at the Sloan Kettering Institute (SKI) and a Professor at the Gerstner SKI of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Hricak’s research career has centered on the development, validation, and global dissemination of innovative diagnostic imaging techniques, particularly in oncology. Dr. Hricak’s leadership in global health care emphasizes improving education, collaboration, and access to high-quality cancer imaging and image-guided treatment. She chaired the Lancet Oncology Commission on Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine and co-chaired the Lancet Oncology Commission: Cancer workforce - a global crisis. Dr. Hricak is a member of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) and received the NAM David Rall Medal for Distinguished Leadership. Her work in research, education, and global outreach has garnered many international honors, including nine gold medals and 17 honorary fellowships from radiological societies worldwide. She also holds honorary doctorates from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the University of Toulouse III, Paul Sabatier.
