About Susan Mackay

Susan Mackay has experience spanning over two decades in the global health sector. Her journey has seen her assume pivotal roles in esteemed organisations such as Gavi, the United Nations, and the BBC. During her tenure at Gavi, Susan played a pivotal role in shaping the organisation's strategic direction, particularly in the development of Gavi 5.0 and the global COVAX rollout. Her focus on fostering inclusivity and community engagement within immunization programs has been instrumental in driving positive health outcomes worldwide. Through strategic planning and effective stakeholder engagement, Susan ensured that Gavi's initiatives remained responsive to the needs of diverse communities. At the United Nations, Susan led and managed teams across various levels, contributing significantly to disease eradication efforts and enhancing immunization coverage. Through evidence-based interventions and strategic advocacy, Susan played a key role in driving forward the agenda for child survival and healthcare equity. Prior to this, Suasn worked for the BBC and BBC World Service Trust producing impactful documentaries and media projects reaching millions worldwide, sparking meaningful conversations and driving positive change. By addressing pressing social issues through compelling narratives, Susan has proven the power of media as a tool for advocacy and awareness. Susan holds a Master's degree in Applied Anthropology and Participatory Development from the Australian National University and the University of Glasgow.
