About David Olaya

Dr. David Olaya is Professor and Researcher at the Institute of Public Health, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, since 2017. His research focuses on Environmental Health, with an emphasis on water management and clean technologies with relevant impact on public health. He holds a Bachelor´s degree in Environmental and Sanitary Engineering from La Salle University- Bogotá (2007), a master´s degree in Environmental Engineering from Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), in Germany (2014), and a PhD in Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá (2019), with a focus on clean technology development in energy sector. Doctoral internship at Institute of Wastewater Management and Water protection at the TUHH -Germany. David has wide experience in consulting, research and university teaching. Relevant experience in Research and Development of technology projects in mining, energy and industrial sectors, and holds an invention patent in a clean technology for energy industry. Wide experience in Project Management, participating in more 25 projects. He has also experience of partnering with indigenous groups. In projects that were seeking the association among the environmental actors, the open pit coal mining operations and the health of the communities. David has also history partnering with Community based or grassroots organizations. He participated as leader of a research Project related to Environmental Health and Water governance. The aim of the project was the design and formulation of the water governance model for 6 small cities, located in the Upper basin of the Chicamocha river.
