About Garry Aslanyan

Dr Garry Aslanyan is a global health leader with over 25 years of experience driving innovation, collaboration, and impact across public health systems. At WHO’s Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), he leads strategic partnerships and global engagement, working closely with WHO regional offices and coordinating ESSENCE on Health Research - a key initiative uniting funders to strengthen research capacity in low- and middle-income countries. Garry is also the host and executive producer of the acclaimed Global Health Matters podcast, a leading voice in global health dialogue, bringing fresh perspectives and inspiring stories to audiences worldwide. Before joining WHO, Garry held senior roles in Canada’s federal government, including at the Public Health Agency of Canada and Global Affairs Canada. He continues to shape global health thinking as Editor-in-Chief of newSpecial, Geneva’s UN staff magazine, and as Editorial Advisor to the WHO Bulletin. An Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto, Garry pioneered the Executive Course in Global Health Diplomacy, equipping professionals with the tools to navigate complex global health negotiations. Known for his collaborative spirit and strategic vision, Garry brings a unique blend of policy expertise, academic insight, and media savvy to every conversation. Whether in the classroom, on stage, or behind the mic, he’s passionate about making global health more inclusive, innovative, and impactful.
