About the session

Effective global health governance must be anchored in transparency, accountability, equity, inclusive participation, and solidarity. At a time of shifting geopolitical dynamics, constrained resources, and growing health challenges, the global health architecture must evolve to become more coordinated, efficient, and responsive to the needs and priorities of countries and communities.

As low- and middle-income countries increasingly finance their own health systems through domestic resource mobilization, their full and equal participation in global decision-making is essential for legitimacy, shared accountability, and sustainable progress. Reforming global health governance requires rethinking how institutions are organized, how financing is allocated, and how power is shared across the global health ecosystem.

The changing global order, marked by economic uncertainty, ecological pressures, and evolving multilateral partnerships, also presents an opportunity to strengthen regional leadership, expand manufacturing capacity, and deepen South–South cooperation to reduce dependencies and improve resilience. At the same time, renewed trust, equitable partnerships, and long-term investment are needed to build health systems that are better prepared for future crises.

This session will explore how global health financing, governance, and power can be reshaped to create a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable global health system, drawing on emerging reform agendas, including the Accra Reset, and perspectives from across the global health community.
