From Data to Solutions: Scaling a Global Network of Health Observatories

Health leaders do not lack data; they lack timely, interoperable and decision-ready intelligence. Fragmented information systems, uneven analytical capacity and weak links between evidence and policy continue to slow preparedness, obscure inequities and limit coordinated responses to cross-border health threats.

Global Health Observatories can close this gap. By linking national and regional platforms through shared standards, trusted governance and open collaboration, they can transform disconnected datasets into actionable intelligence - while strengthening national ownership and capacity. The Global Health Observatory being developed in Coimbra offers a practical starting point for testing how this model can connect institutions, people and evidence across borders.

This session will move the discussion from a single observatory to a scalable network model. It will examine the political, technical and institutional conditions required to connect existing platforms without creating a new layer of duplication or centralization.
