Dr. Wiltrud Abels

Dr Wiltrud Abels is a consultant in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Theme Lead for Sepsis at the Charité Center for Global Health. Her clinical and research work focuses on sepsis, critical care and the improvement of care quality across different health-system settings. She leads and contributes to international research and capacity-strengthening collaborations, particularly with partners in sub-Saharan Africa, spanning sepsis quality improvement, digital health, education and implementation research. Additionally, Wiltrud has worked with the German Sepsis Foundation since 2020 to support survivors and promote awareness and sepsis knowledge in Germany and beyond. Her work aims to bridge clinical practice, global health research and the development of practical approaches to improve sepsis prevention, recognition and care.
