Dr. Tomas Zapata

Dr Tomas Zapata is Director of the WHO Academy in Lyon, leading work on global health workforce policies, education and learning. A medical doctor specialized in Family Medicine, he has over 17 years of international experience in health workforce and health service delivery, spanning policy advice, research and programme implementation. He has worked extensively across Africa, Asia and Europe. He holds master’s degrees in Health Policy, Planning and Financing and Humanitarian Medicine and a specialized course on Health Workforce in Harvard Public Health School. Dr Zapata is also a Visiting Professor at Portugal’s National School of Public Health and has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications.
