About Somphou Sayasone
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somphou Sayasone received his Ph.D. degree and postdoctoral training at Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Associated institute to the University of Basel (Switzerland). Prior to that, he obtained his master’s degree on Tropical Medicine and Internation Health at the Francophonie Institute of Tropical Medicine and International Health, Vientiane, Lao PDR and completed his medical education at University of Health Sciences in Vientiane (Laos). Since 2001, he has been conducting research on neglected tropical diseases, such as food-borne trematodiasis, schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminthiasis and malaria, focusing on pathology, epidemiology, morbidity, diagnosis and treatment. Recently, he scaled up his research activities to cover infectious diseases, including gut microbiota, antimicrobial resistance, and nutrition, which are public health threats in Southeast Asia and Laos.
