Dr. Sohel Saikat

Sohel Saikat is a public health expert who currently serves as Senior Adviser, Primary Health Care, at the World Health Organization (WHO). He has over 20 years of experience in health systems strengthening and public health. At WHO Headquarters, he leads portfolios on health systems resilience and essential public health functions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he coordinated WHO's work on health systems recovery, underpinning universal health coverage and health security as interdependent objectives. In the post-COVID-19 period, he has advised various governments on public health reforms, including the development of national public health institutes. Before joining WHO in 2014, he worked in public health in the United Kingdom, serving in several senior roles, including Principal Public Health Scientist and Global Health Strategist. He served as Guest Editor of a special collection in Frontiers in Public Health on "Health Systems Recovery in the Context of COVID-19 and Protracted Conflict", which featured 25 articles: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/38177/health-systems-recovery-in-the-context-of-covid-19-and-protracted-conflict. He is a Fellow (by Distinction) of the Faculty of Public Health (FFPH), United Kingdom.
