Dr. Shevin Jacob

Dr Shevin Jacob is an infectious diseases physician and Reader in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. For more than two decades, his work has focused on improving the recognition, understanding and management of life-threatening infections in resource-constrained settings, particularly sub-Saharan Africa. Based in Uganda, he has led multinational research collaborations spanning epidemiology, diagnostics, clinical management and implementation research, with an emphasis on addressing gaps across the patient care continuum and strengthening African scientific leadership. He is Director and Chief Scientific Officer of the Sub-Saharan African ConsorTium for the Advancement of Innovative Research and Care in Sepsis (STAIRS), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. He is also co-founder and non-executive Director of Walimu, a Uganda-registered non-governmental organisation; an Executive Committee member of the African and Global Sepsis Alliances; and has contributed to international guidelines and initiatives on sepsis and the clinical management of severe infections, including those of the World Health Organization and Surviving Sepsis Campaign.
