About Shabana Haider
Dr. Shabana Haider is currently serving as the Member Population in the Planning Commission of Pakistan, the apex body for economic planning and development and spearheads human capital development agenda of the country. She is a global health, population and nutrition leader- strategic ideas architect and a health systems specialist with over 18 years of transformative experience spanning health systems strengthening, policy development, and sustainable financing across low- and middle-income countries like Pakistan, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Uganda and Indonesia. She has extensively worked for public, private and development sector partners. Dr. Haider has earlier worked with the Global Fund and Oxford Policy Management on transition/sustainability of GF investments in Pakistan and with the World Bank on designing major PHC program. She is also an International Board Member representing LMICs at the Canadian Association for Global Health (CAGH).
Dr. Haider's leadership roles include her tenure as the Country Director of an International US based organization leading health financing reforms in Pakistan advising all provincial governments. She has been the Member of the Planning Board in the largest province, Punjab, Pakistan and received best performance awards by the Chief Minister twice. Her visionary approach to healthcare governance is exemplified through her service as Chairperson of the Board of Governors for leading public-private partnerships in health and her groundbreaking work as one of the pioneers of Pakistan's first health regulatory body Punjab Healthcare Commission, also setting the Multi-Sectoral Nutrition and Population Centre and establishing a Govt. owned company, the Punjab Population Innovation Fund that leads private sector work on sexual and reproductive health of which she was the first CEO.
A healthcare innovation pioneer, Dr. Haider has been instrumental in establishing quaternary care facility for organ transplantation, PKLI and designing comprehensive programs addressing family planning, maternal and child health, tuberculosis, hepatitis, non-communicable diseases, HIV/AIDS, NCDs and immunization. Her diverse professional background includes international strategic roles in the pharmaceutical and wellness sector with French and Singaporean multinational corporations
Dr. Haider's academic credentials include a Master of Science in Global Health from McMaster University, Canada, a Master's in Public Policy, a Medical degree from Pakistan, specialized certifications in Human Resources for Health from Harvard School of Public Health, and health financing certification from the World Health Organization, Geneva. Beyond her professional achievements, she is a passionate climate advocate, global traveler, and an ardent horse rider.
