Dr. Ojwang Alice Achieng completed her Ph.D. studies at the North-West University and her Master of Nutrition at the University of Stellensbsoch both in South Africa. Alice heads the Department of Human Nutrition at The Technical University of Kenya. She is a Nutrition and Dietetic consultant with over 20 years of experience in the prevention and management of Non-communicable diseases specifically the prevention of obesity and Type 2 diabetes (T2D) in communities in Kenya and Sub-Sahara Africa. Her research interests include carbohydrate intake in weight reduction and reversal of T2D and the cost-effectiveness of dietary and lifestyle interventions. She was instrumental in setting up the Clinical Care Centres (CCC) for HIV treatment as well as the Food by Prescription programs to cater for HIV/AIDS malnourished children and adults in Kenya. She has been engaged in community nutrition education and support, for vulnerable populations such as sickle cell anemia, cerebral palsy, and young footballers in informal settlements in Nairobi-Kenya. She works as a Practitioner, Health Promoter, Researcher and Educator. She continues to mentor young nutrition/dietetic professionals in Africa.
