Dr Kate Cameron is the founder and CEO of Cytochroma, an outstanding contract research organisation that manufactures ethnically diverse, stem cell models to predict the safety and efficacy of new drugs in a global population ahead of clinical trials. The company uses state of the art technology, automation, and robotics to produce advanced, human, physiologically relevant models, and utilises phenotypic testing combined with machine learning to provide predictive tests that become smarter over time. The company’s mission is to transform global drug development, reduce the need for animal testing and provide an ethical, sustainable alterative for testing.
Kate is an experienced scientist who pioneered animal free, large scale, liver cell manufacture. She has generated novel methods and technologies to optimise stem cell derived models for large scale drug discovery. Kate has a PhD from Edinburgh University, has lectured internationally, presented at multiple conferences, and led large scale multidisciplinary research projects. She is a former BBSRC sponsored Royal Society of Edinburgh Enterprise Fellow, a driven entrepreneur and has achieved significant recognition in numerous international business awards, grants, and competitions.
