Lavanya Vijayasingham

Dr Lavanya Vijayasingham is a post-doctoral fellow at the United Nations University International Institute for Global Health, where she works on gender and health policy and research. Her work at UNU-IIGH includes the study of financing for gender equality in the HIV response, the financing and economics of self-care interventions for SRHR, the gender-responsiveness of donor-funded health programming, and more recently, research agenda-setting for gender and COVID-19. She has a PhD in Public Health (Monash University Malaysia), based on interdisciplinary doctoral research on the employment of people with chronic illnesses (public health and business/management). Her other academic qualifications include a Master of Public Health from the University of Melbourne (Health Economics), and a Bachelors of Applied Science (Pharmaceutical Sciences) from RMIT University Australia. Before joining UNU-IIGH, Lavanya has worked in academia, government, the pharmaceutical industry, consulting and NGO settings in Australia and Malaysia, and has published across multiple academic areas including gender in management, business ethics, healthcare financing and access, disability and employment policy and patient experiences. Lavanya has a keen interest in continuing to engage with interdisciplinary concepts across contexts and multi-sectoral actors in global health in her future work.
