Prof. Dr. Rainer Sauerborn is Director of the Institute of Public Health at Heidelberg University since 1997. He also holds position of Visiting Professor at Umea University in Sweden for 'Global Health and Climate Change'. He trained as a pediatrician at the Medical School of Heidelberg University, after which he recieved his doctorate in Public Health from Harvard University. As a coordinator of the Health Office of the Harvard Institute for International Development he learned to apply an inter-sectoral wide-angle view at development.
He has a long-standing track record of service and research in Africa and Asia on health systems with a particular focus on climate change and health.
