Luciana Mendes Santos Servo is a civil servant in the Institute for Applied Economic Research - Ipea since 1998, with the attributions of conducting research, evaluations and being a public policy advisor. She holds a PhD in Economics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Cedeplar/UFMG) and a Master's degree, also in Economics, from the University of São Paulo (FEA/USP), with specialization in health economics. Employed at the Institute since 1998, she has authored numerous studies on health financing and expenditure, healthcare accounts, monitoring and analysis of public health policies, labor market, and regional economics. She has conducted and coordinated evaluations, including those related to the Council for Monitoring and Evaluation of Public Policies (CMAP). She has been president of Ipea since January 2023. Ipea is a public institution linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Planning and Budget. It provides technical support to the federal government with regard to public policies: fiscal, social and economic. Ipea's headquarters are located in Brasília, and there is a branch in Rio de Janeiro. The Institute has around 800 employees. More than 200 of its research staff members are doctors and post-doctors.The think tank’s main goals are: i) to evaluate and propose essential public policies and programs to improve the social, economic and structural development of the country; ii) to formulate prospective studies to guide development strategies for medium and long-term outcomes; iii) to assist the Brazilian federal government in its aim to improve the efficiency of its decisions; and iv) to contribute to the improvement of the public debate related to the country’s development endeavors and government actions.
