Alex Silverstein is an international patient advocate, NHS employee and self-employed consultant. He worked for Diabetes UK before becoming the first President of the International Diabetes Federation’s (IDF) Young Leaders in Diabetes programme. In his role, Alex led 70 young adults from 48 different countries to deliver projects with their national diabetes charities. Alex has been part of award winning projects to use Skype clinics for hospital diabetes care and regularly gives talks on the use of digital technology in improving diabetes care. He currently works for the NHS, as part of a diabetes transformation programme across North West London, which has digital at its heart. This includes the use of tools to help people learn about diabetes and improve self-management, such as apps and e-learning, whilst also developing a mechanism for people with diabetes and healthcare professionals to access training, support, medical records and behaviour change tools. He is also a member of the British Medical Journal's patient panel. Alex is passionate about ensuring that no matter where someone lives they receive the Equipment, Education, Empathy and Engagement opportunities to manage living with NCDs and understands the potential for digital to support this.
