Dr. Asanga Ranasinghe is the National Coordinator of the Renal Disease Prevention and Research Unit, Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine. He is a product of royal College Colombo. His tertiary and medical training was at the Vinntsa -Medical Institute Ukraine, USSR where he graduated MD (1990).
He was enlisted to Ministry of Health in 1992 as Medical Officer of Health in Anuradhapura District. He completed Diploma in International Community Health at Oslo University Norway in 2002. In 2004 he was appointed as Regional Epidemiologist in Anuradhapura District. In 2008 he was appointed as Regional Epidemiologist in Puttlam District. He was able to complete certificate course in Epidemiology at National Intestate of Communicable Disease Prevention – Delhi India in 2004.
He obtained postgraduate qualification/postgraduate diploma in Occupational Health and Safety-Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in 2005. He successfully completed fellowships in Epidemiology offered by World Health Organization in 2006/2008. He worked as the head of the Provincial Renal Disease Prevention and Research Unit, North Central Province since 2008. Now he is the National Coordinator of the renal Disease Prevention and Research Unit, Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine.
