Dr Fawziya Abikar Nur, born in Jowhar, Somalia, completed her primary and secondary education schooling in Mogadishu. Fawziya enrolled into the Faculty of Law at the Somali National University from which she graduated in February 1985. After a post-graduate fellowship in Public Law at the University of Bologna in Italy, she obtained a Master’s degree in Health Services Management from the Istituto Superiore di Sanita’ in Rome, Italy. She subsequently completed a PhD in Public Health from Universita’ Degli Studi di Roma, 'La Sapienza'. Fawziya began her career as an Assistant Lecturer at the Somali National University and has worked on poverty reduction training programs for health professional in developing countries at Rome University-Sapienza and Istituto Superiore di Sanita’. From 2012 to 2016, she worked in the field of health and human rights as aconsultant for the World Health Organization (Somalia Country Office) conducting needs assessments for health projects, facilitating training activities, conducting monitoring and evaluation and coordinating the Public Health law project in Somalia. Fawziya became the Minister of Health and Social Care for the Federal Government of Somalia in March 2017.
