Albena Kuyumdzhieva is an ethics professional with extensive experience in development cooperation and technical assistance. Before joining the European Commission, she has provided advisory services to 16 governments in the Eastern European Neighbourhood Policy Region, the Balkans, Central Asia and West Africa. Some of her key profile positions include: EU High Level Adviser to the Prime Ministers of Moldova and Armenia; Anticorruption Adviser to EUBAM and BOMCA, Adviser to the Vice-chair of the Constitutional Affairs Committee in the European Parliament.
Currently, Albena is a Policy Officer at the Ethics and Research Integrity Sector, DG Research and Innovation, European Commission. The sector is responsible for developing and implementing the Ethics Appraisal Scheme of Horizon 2020 (the biggest EU Research and Innovation Programme) and for the EU Ethics and Integrity framework coherence. Albena's main areas of expertise are: data protection, e-governance, security, dual use, fraud and misuse of research results.
Albena is a PhD candidate at Royal Holloway, University of London and holds master degrees in Law and Finances, complimented by her postgraduate studies in University of Oxford and London School of Economics and Political Science.
