Carolin Welzel

Carolin Welzel is Global Health Lead in Bayer’s Pharmaceuticals Division. She develops and advances partnerships and initiatives that connect Bayer’s development objectives with the Sustainable Development Goals, with a focus on sustainable health impact in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Her work spans global health, public affairs, security and resilience. She examines how these areas intersect and how artificial intelligence can support innovation in health systems and strengthen the impact of existing initiatives. Carolin represents Bayer as a Global Health Champion for the ONE Foundation and is a member of the EU Global Gateway Business Advisory Group, alongside other global-health networks. Her most recent professional experience was an immersive week with the German Armed Forces Medical Service, offering first-hand insight into the intersection of health, security and resilience. Carolin brings extensive experience in development cooperation and collaboration with international financial institutions. She has built and led projects for GIZ in the Maghreb and East Africa and spent several years at the Federation of German Industries (BDI), working at the interface between the private sector and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Before moving into global health and development, Carolin worked in journalism and received the Grimme Award for Online Journalism. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Sorbonne University and a Master’s degree from the University of Giessen.
