Dr Martin Barasa is currently serving as the VSF Germany Regional Head of Programs based at Nairobi, Kenya and overseeing humanitarian assistance and development aid programs in Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Sudan. Previously worked for VSF Suisse in South Sudan for 17 years in various capacities, the last four years (September 2014 to April 2018) as the Country Director. Martin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, and Master’s Degree in Development Studies from St Pauls University, Kenya. Martin has over 20 years of work experience in humanitarian assistance and development aid cutting across multiple sectors funded by various donors. Experience covers design and management of programs that address needs in pastoral and agro-pastoral livestock production systems, management of livestock disease prevention and control programs in emergencies, community-based animal healthcare and extension service systems management, agricultural value chain enterprises and market development and private-public partnership building.
