Dr. Dena Lyras is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology at Monash University and has played a major role in the development of methods of genetic analysis in Clostridium species. Her current research is focussed on the pathogenesis of infections caused by the emerging pathogens Clostridium difficile and Clostridium sordellii, particularly with respect to the role of toxins, adhesion factors and spores in disease.
Her work has also investigated mobile DNA and antibiotic resistance mechanisms employed by Clostridium species, especially involving the analysis of mobilisable and conjugative transposons.
