Valentyna Mazhbits is a psychiatrist, psychotherapist, PhD, member of the Association of Neurologists, Psychiatrists and Narcologists of Ukraine; expert of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine; member of the Global Health Hub, researcher at the Charité - University Medicine Berlin, Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy; co-coordinator of the project Solomiya.
She graduated her high school diploma with a gold medal and then Khakriv State Medical University (Ukraine), with distinction, and completed her internship together with defended her master's thesis in psychiatry with honors. She started working as a local psychiatrist in a dispensary in Ukraine. In 2013, she defended her PhD thesis in the specialty of psychiatry and became the head of the day hospital, as well as a Professor Assistant in the department of psychiatry at the Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (Ukraine). Then she worked as the Senior Researcher, State Institution Research Institute of Psychiatry of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. More than five years she worked as a consulting psychiatrist for the IOM (Ukraine), as well as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist in private clinics. Since June 2022, she has been working at Charité as a researcher and co-coordinator of the Solomiya project. This project aims to strengthen long-term medical and psychosocial infrastructure in Ukraine through a network of hospital partnerships.
