Daniel Strech (born 1975) studied medicine and philosophy and then worked for two years as a doctor in the field of psychiatry. This was followed by scientific activities in the field of medical ethics in Tuebingen and Zurich, among others. From 2008 to 2018 he worked at the Hannover Medical School (MHH), most recently via a DFG-funded W3 Heisenberg Professorship. Since 2018, Daniel Strech has held a W3 professorship for 'Translational Bioethics' at the Charité in Berlin, where he heads a working group at the QUEST Center of the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH).
His research, teaching and consulting activities focus on ethical and regulatory issues in medical research and public health/health policy. This includes ethical challenges in clinical research, in the performance of animal experiments, in Big Data and biobank research, as well as in the distribution of limited resources or in the quality assessment of medical innovations.
With regard to Global Health, Daniel Strech has participated in two WHO working groups for the guideline 'Ethics of Public Health Surveillance' and in the working group 'Guidance for Ethical Review of Health Systems and Policy Research'. He has also conducted interview research on medical ethics in sub-Saharan Africa.
