About Andy Haines

Andy Haines trained in family medicine and epidemiology. He was Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine from 2001- October 2010. He was a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for the 2nd, 3rd and 5th assessment exercises. He chaired the Scientific Advisory Panel for the 2013 WHO World Health Report, the Rockefeller /Lancet Commission on Planetary Health, the Lancet Pathfinder Commission on health in the zero-carbon economy and co-chaired the InterAcademy Partnership (140 science academies worldwide) working group on climate change He has published many papers, including on climate change and health and the health co-benefits of low carbon policies. He is chief scientific advisor to the pan-European Commission on Climate Change and Health; Chair of Expert Advisory Group, Standards for Official Statistics on Climate and Health Interactions (SOSCHI); member of Advisory Council of The US National Academy of Medicine Grand Challenge on Human Health & Climate Change and co-chair of Roadmap for Transformative action working group; member UN Nuclear Weapons Panel. He received the Tyler prize for Environmental Achievement in 2022.
