Jun Miyashita is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Shirakawa Academy for General Medicine, Fukushima Medical University, Fukushima, Japan. He is engaged in education in general medicine and clinical research for residents at the Shirakawa Academy for General Medicine. At the same time, as researcher, he belongs to the department of healthcare epidemiology in Kyoto University School of Public Health. His research theme is advance care planning and end-of-life care communication. His research questions address social and family factors related with advance care planning discussions in Asian cultures. From 2016, he, as principal investigator, has conducted the collaborative research in Taiwan and Japan investigating an appropriate time to start ACP discussions, as part of products of M8 Alliance Action Initiative, “End of Life,” in which Prof. Fukuhara, Dean of Kyoto University School of Public Health, and Prof. Chang-Chuan Chan, Dean of National Taiwan University College of Public Health, have led collaborations in long-term and end-of-life care.
