Dr. Antonio currently holds the position of Associate Professor in the School of Psychological Sciences at Monash University. His PhD training, focused in Clinical Neuropsychology and Neuroscience, included internships in the following international centres: University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (Iowa, USA), Behavioral and Clinical Neuroscience Institute, University of Cambridge (Cambridge, UK) and Johns Hopkins Medical Institute (Baltimore, USA).
After obtaining his PhD at the University of Granada (www.ugr.es), Antonio held a post-doctoral position in the Neuroscience Program of the IMIM-Hospital del Mar, Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (www.prbb.org), where he developed strategic research collaborations in the fields of genetics, pharmacology and functional neuroimaging.
After one year he was appointed as a Lecturer at the University of Granada, where he spent the last five years before arriving at Monash in 2013.
During this time he has coordinated five competitive research grants in the fields of Addiction, Obesity and Rehabilitation of Executive Functions and supervised seven completed PhD theses. He has published > 70 papers in top-ranking ISI Web of Science journals in the fields of Substance Abuse, Clinical Psychology, and Neuroscience. His current h-index is 17.
Antonio is also an Associate Editor of the journals: Addiction (IF=4.3) and PLoS One (IF=4.1) and Editor in Chief of the journal Trastornos Adictivos (Elsevier). He has also been an invited speaker by several international Universities and Research Institutions, including the University of Cambridge (UK), the University of Bristol (UK), the Institute of Neurosciences of Guadalajara (Mexico), the US National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) (US), and the Institute of Psychiatry of London (UK). He has also been an invited speaker to a number of international conferences, such as the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) and the British Association of Psychopharmacology (BAP).
