Nina Babel

Prof. Babel is head of the Center for Translational Medicine and Immune Diagnostics Laboratory at the Ruhr University Bochum and Principal Investigator at the BIH Center for Regenerative Therapies, Charité. She has a clinical training in internal medicine, nephrology and immunology and a long-term expertise in characterizing the virus-immune system interplay. Studying mechanisms underlying immunopathogenesis of viral diseases, her laboratory established new parameters and technology for monitoring the individual immune response and the risk of viral infection and virus-associated complications in immunocompromised patients. Prof. Babel´s lab has a long-term expertise in monitoring virus infection and antiviral immunity as a reference laboratory for several national and international multi-center studies. She conducted various studies on antiviral immunity in COVID-19 high-risk populations and published in this context 24 studies mainly on SARS-CoV-2-specific cellular immunity so far.
