About Arif Hossain
Arif Hossain is the Head of Healthcare and Life Sciences (HCLS) Public Policy for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) at Amazon Web Services (AWS). Based in London, he leads AWS's policy engagement across the region on digital health, health data governance, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in healthcare — working across diverse regulatory environments and health systems at varying stages of digital maturity.
His work sits at the intersection of global digital health frameworks and national implementation, focusing on how governance choices, data protection regimes, and public-private partnerships shape equitable and sustainable digital health transformation. He engages regularly with governments, regulators, and multilateral institutions on the policy conditions needed to enable innovation while safeguarding public trust and health system accountability.
Prior to joining AWS, Arif spent seven years in the UK National Health Service (NHS) in a range of senior policy roles. As Policy Lead to the NHS's Chief Scientific Officer, he advised on the scientific policy response to COVID-19 and drove healthcare science policy development on behalf of the NHS's most senior healthcare scientist. More broadly, he designed and delivered a range of cross-NHS and government policy projects, including a Secretary of State-commissioned initiative on the international recruitment of nurses into the NHS.
Arif serves on the EU's EIT Health BrightSkills Advisory Board, contributing to the future of health innovation skills across Europe. He holds a Master's degree in Health Policy from Imperial College London and a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
