Prof. Dr. Anders Gustafsson

Anders Gustafsson is a Professor of Periodontology and former Vice-President of Karolinska Institutet. Gustafsson earned both his dental and doctoral degrees at Karolinska Institutet. In 2005, he was appointed Professor of Periodontology and became Head of the Unit for Periodontology. In 2012, he was appointed Dean of Doctoral Education, and in 2016, he became Dean of Research at Karolinska Institutet. His research focuses primarily on the pathogenesis of periodontitis and the association between periodontitis and systemic diseases, particularly cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Gustafsson has more than 35 years of experience teaching undergraduate students in the dentistry and dental hygiene programmes.
