About Ximena Aguilera

Dr. Ximena AGUILERA, MD, MPH, is Chile's current Minister of Health under President Gabriel Boric. She was previously a full professor of Public Health and Director of the Center of Epidemiology and Health Policy at Universidad del Desarrollo, Santiago. Dr. Aguilera previously served as Senior Advisor on Communicable Diseases at PAHO in Washington, DC, where she coordinated the technical response to the 2009 H1N1 pandemic. She led the Division of Health Planning and Department of Epidemiology at Chile's Ministry of Health (1999-2008), spearheading surveillance system reform, formulating National Health Objectives 2000-2010, and contributing to Chile's Health Sector Reform, including the AUGE explicit guarantees regime. She has participated as a WHO expert in international forums on SARS-CoV-2, Universal Health Coverage, and pandemic preparedness, and serves on various Chilean MOH and PAHO committees. Dr. Aguilera has also consulted for PAHO, UNDP, IDB, and the World Bank across Latin America and China.
