Prof. Dr. med. Hendrik Streeck is Director of the Institute of Virology and Co-Director of the Center for HIV & AIDS at the University Hospital Bonn. He is specialist on virology, microbiology and infectious disease epidemiology and is heading a large virological diagnostic training. After he completed his medical training at the Charite in Berlin he was postdoctoral fellowship at the Partner AIDS Research Center/Harvard Medical School and was appointed assistant professor at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard in 2009, as well as assistant immunologist at Massachusetts General Hospital. In 2012 he was appointed Head of Immunology at the US Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) and was Assistant Professor of Emerging Infectious Diseases at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Washington DC as well as adjunct faculty at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. In March 2015 he accepted a full professorship at the University of Duisburg-Essen and founded the Institute for HIV Research. In 2019 he became director of the Institute of Virology in Bonn. He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German AIDS Foundation and was president of the International AIDS Conference in Berlin 2021. He is frequent political advisor to the German federal or state government on COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS. He is one of the leading virologists in Germany and is spearheading several epidemiological studies on COVID-19, HIV and sexually transmitted infections.
