Svenja Schulze has been a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) since 1988, starting her political path as Chairperson of the SPD youth organization in North Rhine-Westphalia from 1993 to 1997. In 1997 she became a Member of Parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia, serving as the Minister for Innovation, Science and Research of the Federal State 2010 to 2017, and the General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2018. In 2018 to 2021 she served as Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, and becoming the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development in 2021.
