Dr. Timo Falkenberg is a senior scientist at the Center for Development Research (ZEF), University Bonn (Germany), and is affiliated with the GeoHealth Center, Institute of Hygiene and Public Health, University Clinic Bonn. Currently, he is the Coordinator of the NRW Forschungskolleg ‘One Health and urban transformation’, which is jointly operated between the University Bonn, the University of Applied Science Bonn-Rhein-Sieg and the United Nations University – Institute for Environment and Human Security. He is engaged in teaching Medical Geography at the Geographical Institute Bonn, as well as courses in Social Medicine at the Medical Faculty of the University Bonn. Additionally, he is involved in teaching the interdisciplinary program MSc Global Health and Hygiene Policy. He holds a BSc (hon) Public Health from the University of East London and a MSc Development Administration and Planning from the University College London (UCL). He has completed the Doctoral Program ‘Bonn International Graduate School for Development Studies’ at the Center for Development Research and obtained a doctoral degree in medical geography from the natural science faculty in 2016. His research interest lies with infectious diseases, transmission pathways, the WASH nexus and wastewater irrigation. He has conducted extensive research in India and is currently engaged in research activities in India, Ghana, Brazil and Germany.
