Pr Xavier Jouven is a leading cardiologist, epidemiologist, and global health expert. His research bridges clinical cardiology, epidemiology, artificial intelligence and public health, with a strong emphasis on population-based approaches.
Currently a Tenured Professor of Cardiology and Epidemiology at Paris Cité University, Pr Jouven is also Director of the Integrative Epidemiology Research Team at the Paris Cardiovascular Research Center (INSERM U970) since 2004.
As a specialist in cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death, he leads the Paris Sudden Death Expertise Center, which he has founded in 2010 to advance research and prevention strategies in this critical area.
From 2012 to 2023, he also served as Head of the Department of Cardiology, Surgery, and Transplantation at the European Hospital Georges Pompidou, Paris.
Deeply committed to global health equity, he has been working extensively in Africa for more than 30 years. He has co-founded the African Research Network for Non-Communicable Diseases, a collaboration with 20 sub-Saharan African countries based in Dakar, Senegal. This network focuses on research, training, and policy development to combat the rising burden of chronic diseases. For services rendered to Africa, he was granted the Senegalese nationality in 2023.
In 2024, he has founded the Paris Institute for Global Health, an interdisciplinary initiative aiming to address global challenges in chronic disease prevention and health systems strengthening with a strong involvement in the World Health Summit.
Pr. Jouven has published over 400 articles in high profile reviews and has been awarded many prizes.
