After studying medicine in Heidelberg, Birmingham, San Antonio and Chicago, Professor Frederik Wenz received his doctorate from the University of Heidelberg in 1992. The experimental work for his doctoral thesis was done at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, where he also completed an internship in diagnostic radiology under the supervision of Professor G. van Kaick.
He then completed his residency in Radiation Oncology with Professor M. Wannenmacher at the University of Heidelberg. Following a research fellowship at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston and the completion of his postdoctoral training, he assumed the role of Attending Physician at the University Hospital of Heidelberg.
From 2000 to 2018, Professor Wenz was Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University Hospital Mannheim. Since 2014, he has been Medical Director of the University Hospital Mannheim in addition.
In January 2019, he became Chairman of the Board of University Hospital Freiburg.
Professor Wenz has published over 500 research papers in scientific journals and has edited six textbooks. He has also served as a member of the editorial board for various journals and as an editor for the journal Strahlentherapie & Onkologie.
