Dr. Jonathan Mangion is the head of bioinformatics at Thermo Fisher Scientific covering Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In this capacity, Dr Mangion leads a team of bioinformaticians and IT specialists that provide support and consultancy services for customers using the Ion Torrent and SOLiD next generation sequencing platforms. His team provide a range of services including technical support and training for the NGS platforms, bioinformatics career development training, data analysis and bioinformatics and IT consultancy.
Dr. Mangion has over 20 years of experience in both academia and industry dealing with genome wide data sets and has expertise in genetics, genomics and bioinformatics. Prior to his current role, Dr Mangion lead a team of bioinformaticians at Imperial College London that developed visualisation and data mining tools to integrate genetic data with whole genome gene expression data, known as eQTLs or expression QTLs, to help understand the underlying molecular basis of metabolic and cardiovascular disease.
Previously, Dr Mangion has worked at the biotech company Oxagen, UK where he was a principal scientist using genetics to identify drug targets. He started his career at the Institute of Cancer Research, Sutton, UK where he was part of the team that identified and characterised the early onset breast cancer predisposition gene, BRCA2.
Dr. Mangion has a Ph.D in human genetics from the University of London and has authored 50 publications.
