Bakhuti Shengelia is an international health systems expert with more than 18 years of diverse professional experience in international development and global health. Currently as Head of Global Health Portfolio he leads Novartis Foundation's operations in its key programmatic areas. Prior to that Dr. Shengelia was Director of Healthcare systems at the Novartis's Global Corporate Strategy and Health Systems group, where he focused on building healthcare system capabilities among senior Novartis managers and country teams. He coached and supported many Novartis teams in their effort to build genuine mutually beneficial public-private partnerships with healthcare systems in different countries.
Prior to joining the private sector, Dr. Shengelia was engaged in shaping health sector reform design and implementation in many countries mainly in Europe and East Asia in his capacity as a senior expert at the World Bank and earlier The World Health Organization. Dr. Shengelia also was in charge of health system strengthening and immunization financing work at the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI).
Bakhuti Shengelia's expertise lies in the areas of health system strengthening, health system performance assessment, health financing, non-communicable diseases, and pharmaceutical sector. He is passionate about unconventional out-of-box solutions for sustainability risks of the healthcare systems, and he is a strong believer of the power of partnerships between the public and private sectors.
