Yuka Makino

Yuka Makino has been a technical officer for oral health at the WHO Regional Office for Africa since August 2019. Her main responsibilities are to implement the Regional Oral Health Strategy 2016-2025 and the Regional Noma Control Programme through supporting Member States to develop and implement the national oral health policy/action plan; and building the capacity of the focal points of oral health at the ministry of health to accelerate oral health agenda. Between 2016 and 2019, she was a technical officer at the health promotion unit at the WHO HQ. She contributed to developing various technical guidance to support global stakeholders on how to deploy the NCDs common risk factor approach in promoting oral health towards Universal Health Coverage. Before she joined WHO, she worked in the NGO and supported a local government developing and implementing an oral health action plan in Mondulkiri province, Cambodia. She holds a PhD in Preventive Dentistry, an MSc in Public Health (Health Promotion), and a Doctor of Dental Surgery.
