Geneviève Darrieussecq was born in Peyrehorade on 4 March 1956 into a farming family. After studying at Bordeaux Segalen medical university, she worked as a private allergist and associate physician at Mont-de-Marsan hospital from 1983 until she was elected Mayor of Mont-de-Marsan in 2008. Furthermore, she was the doctor of Stade Montois Rugby Pro club for 10 years until 2007.
She was the President of the Association de Formation Continue des Allergologues d’Aquitaine (Association of Continuing Education for Allergists in Aquitaine - APALA) from 1992 to 2000. From 1998 to 2001 she was also President of ANAICE, the national allergists union. She was a member of the Conseil de l’Ordre des médecins (administrative and judicial organisation for the defence and regulation of the medical profession) of Landes for 15 years and President of the Fédération Hospitalière de France (French Hospital Federation) in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region for 10 years.
Geneviève Darrieussecq began her political career in 2004, becoming a Member of the Regional Council of Aquitaine. She was elected Mayor of Mont-de-Marsan in 2008 and MP of the 1st district of Landes in 2017.
She was appointed Secretary of State in 2017 and then Deputy Minister in 2020 under the Minister of the Armed Forces, in charge of Remembrance and Veterans.
From 4 July 2022 to 20 July 2023, she was Minister of People with Disabilities under the Minister of Solidarity, Autonomy and People with Disabilities.
On 21 September 2024, she was appointed Minister of Health and Access to Care in Michel Barnier’s government.
