Christian Kastrop is University Professor of Public Finance, Fiscal Rules and International Institutions at the Free University Berlin. Until 2022, he was State Secretary for Digital Society and Consumer Policy at the German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection. Previously, Christian served as Director of the “Europe’s Future” program at the Bertelsmann Foundation and as Director of the Policy Studies Directorate of the Economics Department at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris. From 2006 to 2010 he was President and Vice-President of the Brussels based Economic Policy Committee (EPC), preparing all ECOFIN Council and EUROGROUP meetings. Prior to this, he held positions as Deputy-Director General within the German Federal Ministry of Finance, including the Strategy and Economics, European, Money, Banking and International/G20 departments. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Cologne University, Germany.
