Professor George Griffin is a clinician and Biomedical Scientist with a distinguished Career being awarded a CBE by the Queen for exceptional service in Medicine and Research.
He quailed BSc in Pharmacology and Molecular Biology at King’s College, London, PhD University of Hull and MBBS University of London and DSc University of London. In addition he gained a prestigious Harkness Fellowship for post graduate research at Harvard Medical School.
Following postgraduate clinical training he became Professor of Infectious Diseases and Medicine at St. George’s University of London. In addition to his clinical and training responsibilities he developed an Academic Institute of Infection and Immunity. His research centred on the human response to infection at cell, molecular and whole body level. He developed a vaccine research unit which enabled many clinical vaccine trials and immunological research. His major contributions were the elucidation of small intestate pathology and function in HIV disease and the mechanism of mTB accelerated HIV transcription i Macropages.
In addition in his current role as President of the Federation Of European Academies of Medicine he strives to enable clinical research in Europe.
