Naby Moussa BALDE obtained his MD degree from the University of Conakry (Guinea). He is board
certified in both Endocrinology and Public health from Rennes I (France). He is a Professor of
Endocrinology, certified by the CAMES (Conseil Africain et Malgache pour l’Enseignement Supérieur). He
currently is a the Head of Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Gastroenterology, Donka-Conakry
University Hospital, and is a senior researcher and lecturer in Endocrinology. He is a faculty member of
the University of Conakry and teaches several international courses on Endocrinology and Diabetes
including Endocrinology and Diabetes certification in West African Universities. He recently initiated and
launched a degree in Diabetes, Nutrition and Health Promotion at the University of Conakry which
welcomes students from five other African countries (Mali, Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo and Republic
Democratic of Congo). He has been working with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Guinea since
1999, where he has led the development of the Diabetes prevention program and national NCD
program. He has been the main investigator for several diabetes studies in the Guinea. He authored and
co-authored over fifty publications. He led the survey of the Guinea STEPS in 2009, and coordinated the
writing of the Guinea NCD Policy and Program documents. He regularly serves as a focal point for the
WHO on matters related to diabetes and NCD. He is a founding member and board member of D2A
(Diabète Académie Afrique, https://diabete-academie-afrique.org). He is the Africa Regional Chair of
International Diabetes Federation (December 2017-December 2019) and a member of Africa NCD
Alliance. In 2015, he created the Guinea Foundation against Diabetes and NCDs.
